If you’re unemployed, you can get an extra free credit report each year.
Federal law requires that all U.S. consumers, including owners of Carmel CA homes, be given with free access to their credit reports once every one year. However, unemployed individuals are entitled to an additional report when they are searching for a job. Since employers often use credit reports in their hiring process, consumers who assess those reports and step in according to the information they have, can increase their chances of getting employed.
The bad news is that consumers frequently neglect to exercise that right. Most people who are out-of-work don’t know that they have the right to get a free credit report.
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, each of the three big Consumer Reporting Agencies (CRAs) – Equifax, Experian and TransUnion – need to provide all consumers with a free credit report yearly. Anyone can easily get their free credit reports through AnnualCreditReport.com, a website they jointly sponsor. The act also allows unemployed individuals to obtain an extra credit report for free, provided those consumers intend to search for a job within sixty days.

Credit reports can also promote more effective budgeting. A consumer can utilize that report to analyze what debts remain owed and whether any accounts are in collections. During unemployment, when money is tight and/or unsure, knowing to prioritize payments, lower spending, extend unemployment checks and acquire access to other nonprofit agencies is very important.
Despite the benefits, obtaining these reports isn’t so simple. Unemployed individuals who want a free report must contact the agencies directly.
It was reported that there are still many who don’t know about the free credit report. At the local level, particular state agencies admit they aren’t acting much to notify their residents.
The FTC states it wants more out-of-the-work consumers to be aware of the free reports. They like to ensure that consumers know their rights.
