Spreckels
Spreckels is a census-designated place located three miles south of downtown Salinas. The small neighborhood is takes up one-tenth of a square mile and was once the home of the writer John Steinbeck. Residents enjoy a close-knit community feel and sunny weather. The neighborhood’s annual Fourth of July party includes a parade, 10K race, and a 1K fun run. The Spreckels Veterans Memorial Building hosts a variety of banquets, parties, and events for residents and visitors. Located in the center of the neighborhood, the Spreckels Memorial Park offers a playground, tennis court, grassy areas, and walkways. For families with school-aged children, the Spreckels Elementary School is located right in the neighborhood. For those who seek an ocean-front playground, the Marina State Beach and sand dunes are just a thirteen mile drive, and offer hang gliding, paragliding, the Monterey Peninsula Recreational Trail, walking trails, and of course miles of beach. Less than thirty minutes from downtown Monterey, the community offers easy access to world-class shopping and dining.
