“Butterfly Town” – Pacific Grove’s New Town Song

Pacific Grove has a new viral video! Julie Capili recently wrote this beautiful song entitled “Butterfly Town” featuring the town of Pacific Grove. Here is what she had to say as she wrote this song:

About a year ago I heard that the monarchs were going extinct. Not only could my hometown be losing it’s most loved icon but the earth’s environment  is in such disorder that the frail beauty of the majestic monarch could be lost forever.  The seriousness of the subject motivated me to start campaigning for awareness not only for the monarchs but also for the bees with the Butterfly Barricade project. We distributed 2,000 native flower seed packets with postcards to congress urging them to take action! We provided food for our little pollinators, awareness and activism. During one of my many events, the City of Pacific Grove’s Chamber of commerce president, Moe Ammar, who has known me since high school, noticed Julie Capili, my friend and talented jazz singer, performing her song “Butterfly Town” in my booth at the Good Old Days Festival in Pacific Grove. He loved it so much he wanted it to be the town song! So he sponsored a music video!

I knew I needed House of 8 Media to help execute the mission. Mike Buffo and I had worked on a video for the Magdalena Festival in New Orleans in 2014 so I knew I could rely on his ability to take direction and support my vision. We shot from the back of the 100 year old fire truck during the butterfly parade while Mike cruised gracefully around on his Heelys shoes and we blasted the song from the back of the fire truck with children all around! It was the first time anyone had heard the song and it instantly melted the hearts of everyone at the parade.

Months later we revamped the edit with footage of the three redheads on bicycles: myself, Julie Capili and our red-headed soul sister and singer Rachael Williams. We rode our vintage bikes through a series of scouted and planned locations, conveniently all downhill from one another ?

It was another marvelous day of shooting and we all felt it was just the first of many collaborations together.
